Job Summary
Qualifications
- Minimum Associates Degree in Nursing, Bachelor’s degree preferred with 5 years of experience with a minimum of 2 – 3 years surgery experience.
- Certifications required: PALS and ACLS. CNOR certification desired or willingness to obtain within 2 years.
- Performance indicates leadership skill, teaching abilities, and sound knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
- Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities
- Develop the surgery orientation programs for operating room staff.
- Serves as an immediate informational resource for any team member
- Coordinates the learning activities to achieve optimum educational opportunities and meet all regulatory requirements.
- Communicates physician and employee concerns related to educational preparation of staff to the Unit Manager and actively and impartially participate in the problem-solving process.
- Functions collaboratively with the Unit Manager daily on the assignments to assure assignments meet the educational needs and competencies.
- Provides clinical expertise and information to administration to assist in the educational access and expenditure decision-making.
- Coordinates the orientation of new staff members for the operating room to maximize educational opportunities.
- Works collaboratively with the other departments to provide needed in-services, and training opportunities for personnel.
- Educational records reveal attendance at all required educational programs and maintained in employee binder.
- Communicates any observed areas of improvement requiring educational needs to the OR Manager & other Managers as needed.
- Works collaboratively with the Unit Manager to develop techniques for the staff to collect and communicate any data for process and quality improvement.
- Coordinates the yearly completion of educational requirements for OR staff.
- Assures adherence to Policies and Procedures as defined in Surgery Manual and AORN standards.
- Acts as a role model for all staff for professional behavior and effective interpersonal communication techniques.
- Assists in the staff education for the information services and data collection system for the perioperative departments.
- Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.
- Coordinates education for all new products, equipment and procedures.
- Maintains documentation of all surgical orientation activities. Didactic orientation includes AORN guidelines, infection control principles, patient safety practices. Documentation should include a list of each training case to include case, specialty and physician.
- Maintains and promotes professional competence by participating in and organizing continuing education and other learning experiences.
- Quality Assessment Performance Improvement principles are consistently demonstrated in the performance of assigned duties.
- Attendance records reflect a punctual, dependable and responsible employee.
- Demonstrates adherence to the principles of safety and infection control and the reporting requirements for each.
- Appropriately handles all information including confidential healthcare information.

- Supervises the daily educational and orientation activities of perioperative staff to achieve the maximum in patient safety, efficiency, and adherence to standards of care.
